Boys Will Be Boys

When Casey was in town, the boys took an afternoon to go offroading in Folsom Lake. What they thought would be a few hour expedition, turned into a several hour extravaganza and even caused them to miss a dinner with my family because they were stuck in the mud. We borrowed my sister's camera to take a photo and finally got it uploaded! It took several guys, two tow-trucks, and a ton of work to get the jeep out of the mud!

A Bumble Bee and a Ladybug

Remember last year, when we wrote this blog. Well that time of year has come around again and we have the photos to prove it.

This is our first halloween at our new house and we couldn't be more excited!! This year we will NOT run out of candy by 8:00pm (oh yes, unfortunately this did happen last year).

Aren't our little bumble bee and ladybug adorable???

Look Kids We Match :-)

We've been doing date nights at my parents, sometimes with my sister and her boyfriend and other times just with my parents and us. We're so blessed to have family we love and even more blessed that we love spending time with each other.

This photo was taken from one of our date nights a few weeks ago!

Sorry Snoopy!

Unfortunately for Snoopy, the fence project is complete! Included is a photo of the finished project (oh yes, it was dark out when we finished) and a photo proving that I do actually do some work too. Although, to be honest, I only really hammered in a few boards because it was wayyy too hard. I did, however, do a phenomenal job holding up boards for Mr. Howard and handing him nails whenever he needed them. I know, I know - it was rough work! :-)

Snoopy's Escape Mission

This morning while we were watching the Saturday Night Live we had tivo'd from the night before, we heard our dogs going crazy in the backyard. We rushed to the window to find that our neighbors' dogs head was peeking underneath the hole in the fence they had clearly dug. We called our dogs in, locked them inside and watched as the dogs next door created a system for coming in our yard. One dog would dig, dig, dig and then step back, while the other dog squeezed his body under the hole. When he couldn't fit, he'd step back and let the other dog dig, dig, dig until at last, he squeezed his whole body underneath and came bounding into our yard.
While we enjoyed our visit with Snoopy (see the picture of him above), we realized that in his Escape Mission, he broke our fence. To be clear, the fence was falling down already. Each wind storm, we crossed our fingers and said a little prayer that it would stay up for just one more weekend until we could repair it.

So, Mr. Howard and the neighbor Wes went to work first tearing down and then repairing the fence. When Mr. Howard realized that he would need reinforcement, we called my dad and they worked diligently to repair the posts and put them into the ground with concrete. We are now waiting for the concrete to dry and are unsure when we'll actually be able to nail up the planks to complete the project.

What a busy day!!!!

Thank You!!!

Kathe, sorry we didn't get this up sooner! We wanted to express our thanks and thought the best way to do that would be a video, so you could actually see the flag we hung! You are sooo sweet and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect gift!

I just realized we have a thing for headphones

As I was getting ready to start our European scrapbook, I noticed a photo that looked sooo familiar. Upon closer examination, I realized that it looked a lot like a photo we just took in Monterey. We both have contraptions on our heads, strings around our neck, I'm smiling in both, and my husband is looking rather goofy in both.

Hmmm...apparently everywhere we go, we need to start a collection of headphone photographs!

Called in Sick

I greet my kids with a handshake or a hug every morning at the door. It's one of my favorite times of the day, because I get to smile at every student and talk to every one.

Unfortunately, however, last week as my students were greeting me, they were saying "Mrs. Howard, last night I was throwing up all night." I knew then that there was a chance I'd get sick, and so I obsessively made a point to wash my hands after touching them or their belongings at all.

Well, this week I got a little lax on the handwashing. As a child was telling me that he threw up that morning, I thought, "OH NO!!! They still have it." But it was too late. Today I had to call in sick after a sleepless night.

PARENTS, please remember that us teachers can't just call in sick when you're little ones give it to us. I had to get up at 4am this morning to write lesson plans, while feeling absolutely HORRIBLE. If you're child hasn't held food down for at least 12 hours, do not send them to school!!!

A Little Surprise

When Casey and I got back after lunch, I gave him a house tour. When we were in the backyard, we realized that a board had broken off from our side fence. Being the fabulous friend that he is, he grabbed some nails and a hammer from the garage and went to work fixing it.

When he got back, he asked me "Hey? Do you want to be adventurous?" Up for a challenge, I said "Yes!" And off to the garage we went. We did a complete overhaul on the garage and surprised Mr. Howard when he got home with a perfectly clean, organized garage. Poor Casey! He comes all way from Southern California to visit and we put him to work!!

What We've Been up to

On September 24th it was Denny's 26th Birthday (my sister's boyfriend), so we all gathered at my parent's house on Saturday to celebrate with a great dinner and delicious dessert.

That Sunday afternoon, we went to see Nights in Rodanthe. While we were by far the youngest people in the theatre, we enjoyed the movie a lot. Unfortunately, for me, the previews gave me an expectation that turned into a slight letdown. The previews said that it was one of the greatest love stories since The Notebook. Well, The Notebook is one of my favorite movies of all time, so I had high expectations for the movie going into it.

We've also spent a few different afternoons, plus Mr. Howard has dedicated two of his last day's off, working on the backyard. My incredibly visual and creative husband has drawn up plans on a few different occasions and spent his days trying to figure out what to do with a wall that we have back there. We think we have a pretty good idea, in terms of the wall, of what we'd like to do back there. However, we still have no idea what we're going to do in terms of landscaping.

Last night we went to my parents for dinner. I love our double date nights. It's always great to catch up!

This morning I am heading to pick up our friend Casey from the airport. He will be staying with us until Wednesday. Today we're planning on meeting Mr. Howard for lunch and then I'll show him our house (he hasn't seen it yet) and I'm not sure what we'll do for the rest of the day! Stay tuned!

Are you registered to vote?

I know that most of you know how passionate I am about politics (hence my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science). But it doesn't take being passionate about politics, to care about your family or what's going to happen to you in terms of the economy. So, DON'T VOTE!
This isn't about voting Democrat or voting Republican. This is about caring for your future, using the power that the consititution gives us, and standing up for who you think should be our leader.
