38 Week Update

Updates from my Doctor's
Appointment
Today:

My blood pressure is high (that's pretty much been a concern of mine ever since I went to Labor and Delivery at 34.5 weeks), so they want to monitor that. I have to come back in two days to have it checked again. They are concerned about my risk for preeclamsia, but I do not have any other symptoms (protein in my urine or swelling of the hands and face), which is great.

They also ordered a fetal non-stress test (NST) because my kick-counts (that's the number of kicks in a certain period of time) have gone down ever since the contractions have begun. In the first 20 minutes of the test, they didn't record any movements, but after an apple juice, Baby H. woke up and started moving around for them. There was no cause for concern with the results!

I measured normal (she didn't tell me my number) and the baby's heartrate was good: 155bmp. She didn't want to do an internal, because she felt like it wouldn't give her any additional information. We already know I'm dilated and effaced and really I could go from a 2 to a 10 by tonight anyway, so there is no reason to know (every doctor seems to have a different take on internal exams and it doesn't really matter to me). All-in-all, it was a good appointment and I'm happy they're going to monitor my blood pressure a little more closely. It's always better safe than sorry in my book. :-)

I'm feeling great!!

Ah, the NST room. Were you in Roseville? If you have to go again say hello to all the nurses there for me. Well if it is a Tues or a Fri. Those were my days. I am looking forward to visiting them with Ellie at my 6 week appointment. After weeks of getting to know them and having them monitoring her it seems funny that they haven't seen her yet. 38 weeks, hooray you are so close now. It is truly crazy how 4 weeks of pregnancy can move so much slower than 4 weeks with a newborn, Ellie is now 4 weeks, it seems hard to believe. I am so excited for you. The next phase of this adventure will be here soon, enjoy!

We were in Lincoln, but I thought of you while we were there. A woman came in with her baby to visit the NST nurse who had weekly visits with her throughout her entire pregnancy. :-)
