A Few New Traditions

I didn't have very many Christmas traditions growing up. In fact, the only one I can think of is that we would open a present on Christmas Eve (a tradition that has continued as we've added family members into our Christmas). But Christmas was always and continues to be a HUGE deal in my family (hence why we will, for as long as we can, spend Christmas with my parents).

A few years ago, when Mr. Howard and I got married, we decided to come up with something fun we could do every year. We decided we would collect penguins. So each year we get one another a penguin, write the year on it, and put it up as a decoration the following year. We have several penguins collected now (from the first year we were married until now).

This year, with the addition of a new family member, we came up with some traditions we wanted to start with our Little Man. The first is that we decided to bake cookies from scratch every year on Christmas Eve for Santa. Of course we started this morning! We also made a plate for Santa's Cookies (which we decorated with Connor's footprints, year, and name), but it's being fired in a kiln and we'll have it for next year. The second tradition we are going to start tonight is that we are going to leave carrots for Santa's Reindeer (I mean, really, all Santa does is sit in a sleigh...his reindeer are doing all the work).

Connor worked really hard to stir the batter:

how wonderful to create new traditions for your growing family! My family always did the open presents x-mas eve (it was always Pj's, we have carried this on with our kids as well) and when Taylor was born we started going to dinner at chevy's on x-mas eve. I LOVE traditions.
I'll bet Santa's reindeer will appreciate the carrots!

We too left cookies and milk out for Santa and you (being the oldest) would leave a note. I have video proof of this. We stopped once you all figured out there wasn't a Santa. I only wish I would have documented more of you all. Connor is very lucky to have you and Luke for parents.
