Twelve Weeks Old

Connor is at a bit of an akward age right now as far as entertainment. He doesn't like to be laying down while people are around him (because he wants to see), but he also can't sit up on his own or be propped up (he wiggles too much for propping - see teddy photo). My mom and I were thinking he might be ready for a stationary entertainment thing - you know one of those jumparoos or a bouncer.

He started big long conversations with us and daycare this week. He'll babble loudly and wait for you to respond and then babble again. Sometimes they're long drawn out sentences and other times, just simple words. It is honestly one of the most amazing forms of entertainment. Here was our conversation this morning.

Mommy: Goodmorning Lovebug!
Connor: lahmafalabatala
Mommy: You did? When?
Connor: lafamamamamtalafanalabala
Mommy: Did you have a little fun or a whole bunch of fun?
Connor: lalalamamaaaaacklala
Mommy: Wow! I wish I could have seen it.
Connor: yala

Don't you wish you could get into their little brains? It always reminds me of the movie, "Look Who's Talking!"

Denny's Birthday

We celebrated Denny's 27th birthday this past Friday and enjoyed a yummy dinner and dessert in honor of the special day. Vanessa was able to come over and spend the evening with us too! Connor was especially excited, as you can tell from the photo!

A Milestone

Connor has now officially begun rolling over in his crib to sleep on his tummy. I know it's okay to let a baby sleep on his/her tummy as soon as they begin doing it on their own, but it still makes me a little nervous! After I quickly snapped this photo, I put him back on his back. Of course, I just went to check on him and he was on his tummy again! He's such a big boy!

A Happy Doctor Update

Apparently Connor's weight was actually lower than I had originally thought. It was between the 3rd and 5th percentile, which is considered Failure to Thrive.

At this appointment, however, we received happy news. He went up from 8 lbs 13 oz to 9 lbs 4 oz, which created an increase of about 8 ounces in 7 days. Although we're not out of the woods yet (we're still in the 5th percentile), because he gained so much weight, we can rest for another week. We need to go back next Thursday again to check the progress and re-evaluate what we need to do. But the pediatrician said his color had improved and he looked a LOT better!

Unfortunately for Mommy, we still have to wake him every 1.5-3 hours to feed, which will be interesting while working full time. I may just have to take it even easier at work than I have been to make it through the day without exhaustion...not that I'm complaining. I would do this for a million years to have a healthy, happy baby.
These pictures are from Katie's 23rd birthday dinner at BJ's!! Stay tuned for pictures from Denny's Birthday dinner!

Eleven Weeks Old

This past Monday was a bit of a rough day. I made less milk than I normally do (normally I'm at about 8 ounces and was at 6 ounces). Obviously this was completely due to the stress of making sure he gets his weight up (so that he is not labeled as "Failure to Thrive" - No Pressure, right?)! After a conversation with a lactation consultant and Connor's pediatrician, I felt a little bit better going into Tuesday. Unfortunately, I think due to stress, I literally pumped half of what I had been producing. On top of that, when I got home, I could not nurse him. So then, finally late that night when I tried giving him formula, he decided I was the worst mommy in the world and showed it by screaming bloody murder (obviously I know I'm not a bad mommy, but I had to temporarily explain to an 11 week old that mommies can sometimes gives babies bottles and that's okay too).

Because I'm absolutely determined to try nursing a little longer, it was at that point that I decided I needed to take some time off of work to see a lactation consultant and stay home and devote some time to just figuring this out before Connor's doctor appointment in the afternoon on Thursday. And that did it (well, that and maybe the 9 Fenugreek I'm taking a day)! Today was just like normal!!

Hopefully this is a change that's heading us in a good direction!

Connor's Doctor Appointment

Highlights:

  • Weight: 8 lb 13 oz
  • Head Size: 15.75 inches
  • Height: 23 inches
  • Lots of vaccinations (4 to be exact)

Unfortunately, you may have noticed that his weight was only 8 lbs 13 ounces. According to his height and age, this puts him in the 5th percentile (which means that he is only heavier than 5% of boys his age and height). While I'm feeling a bit better about it today, this devastated me when I found out on Friday. I feel like I work so hard to nurse him and have already called a lactation consultant to help assist me in pumping more while I'm working, and it seems nothing works. Our pediatrician pointed out that the tiny blue spot on his forehead (I had noticed this about a week ago) is actually a result of dehydration, which also makes me soo very sad.

We have created a plan that I feel good about, which may actually require me to take a day this upcoming week to stay home and just feed him. Then this upcoming Thursday we have an appointment to follow-up with our pediatrician. We've also been instructed to start waking him up every 2 hours during the nighttime (we were letting him sleep throughout the night) to get him to feed. Of course, we will keep you updated after his appointment!

Bathtime

Bathtime has become a favorite pastime for our family! We call Connor our little froggy in the water, because he happily floats with his little legs pulled back!

Diana gave us this adorable towel Connor's in!!

Roll Baby Roll

As I had mentioned in a previous post, Connor rolled over for daycare. We, of course, hadn't seen it yet. So, when Mr. Howard took him to his 2 month doctor's appointment yesterday, it came as no big shock that Connor rolled over on the table a few different times. Finally, last night I witnessed the event and captured it on video!!

Ten Weeks Old

Are you sick of Connor pictures yet?!? I know for us, it never gets old. My viewers, however, may wish for me to limit my photos. :-) You just say the word and they will disappear.

This week we found out Connor rolled over in daycare for the first time. We haven't seen it yet and my rule is if I don't see it, it never really happened and it's NOT going in the baby book (if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it really make a sound? And if a mommy and daddy don't witness an important monumental event such as rolling over - that only said Mom & Dad would care about - did it ever truly happen?)...Hmmm...I will leave you with that little philosophical question to ponder!!

We're ALMOST to giggling

We are super, super close to watching Connor start giggling. He definitely is a little ham now. He'll smile and then when he gets a reaction from one of us, he'll do it more and more and more! We absolutely love it!! How much better can you get than that?

Chicks Dig Me

This weekend Colin came in town to study for the LSAT with Dad. Connor was able to get a little "Uncle Bonding Time" in!

Nine Weeks Old

We have a baby who is 2 months old!! Wow! I still grab the newborn clothes out of the closet, thinking "Ooh we need to wear this, before he finally fits into the 0-3." I guess I need to start breaking out the other clothes before he gets too big for them. In my mind he's still a newborn, freshly hatched!

This week he has been drooling a TON! We think he's started the teething process, but we have yet to see any teeth break the surface.

Labor Day Weekend Fun

Katie, Denny, Devin, Colin, Mr. Howard, David, and Bich all went Indoor Cart Racing on Sunday, while Mom, Connor, and I watched! They had a great time!

There were two places we could watch the crew race: one was inside the track and the other was up on the second floor, in an enclosed building. Guess where Connor didn't fuss one tiny bit?!? On the track with all the horrendous fumes! Like father, Like Son!

Weekend Extravaganza

The last weekend in August, we drove down to Southern California to visit friends and family. Our first destination was Casa de Pants: Jen & Brett's beautiful new house. After a six hour exhausting drive, we were greeted by Jen and a sleeping Brett.

After a busy day, complete with a delicious breakfast, a shopping trip to target, a trip to the jeweler to get our rings cleaned and re-dipped, and Pinkberry with Lucia, we headed out to Orange to visit with family.
Karen wanted to "steal" Connor and the rest of the family, while I'm sure they loved him, were happy to hand him back over to us.
A family picture, minus the photographer!
No Saturday night would be complete without a gazillion warm tortillas dipped in honey butter or salsa. So off we went to Fashion Island, where we met with Sara, Nate, Andrew, Jen, Brett, & Mary at El Torrito Grill.

We ended a night of visits with friends and family with a quick stop to see Casey (below)!
Sunday, after breakfast, Mr. Howard and I headed over to the beach to show Connor the beautiful views. After finally getting some non-hair-blowing/non-fussy-baby photos, we headed down to Madison's First Birthday Party, where we were able to visit with Allison & Jack for a bit.

We ended Sunday with a 7.5 hour long drive home.
All-in-all, it was an INCREDIBLY productive weekend, which only would have been better with a visit from Jordan.

8 Week Video

Eight Weeks Old

We are getting lots of game playing this week. This morning before I went to work, he let me put his pacifier in his mouth, then spit it out and smiled. Again, I walked over and put it in his mouth and again he spit it out and smiled. He was quite proud of himself! :-)

We are so very in love!
