Our Little Stinker

We have a very smart child (well...I guess smart is up for debate). He has cleverly learned how to climb out of the doggy door. I'm sure Mr. Howard gave him mixed signals when he stood there and videotaped this, but you can rest easily knowing that we have since begun locking the doggy door.

17 Weeks Pregnant

Ready for my Photo Quality Disclaimer? This, again, was taken on Mr. Howard's iPhone.
I was never great at Belly Update photos, so I'm not even going to pretend to do this on any type of regular schedule. But since Mr. Howard thought of it this morning and Connor was sleeping quietly while both of us were up, we decided to take a belly photo. While I got a belly MUCH earlier (not a big one, but a belly at probably 9-10 weeks) with Itty than I did with Connor, I actually think I am smaller than I was with Connor at 17 weeks (see picture below of me pregnant at 17 weeks with Connor). In fact, with Connor I didn't fit into my pants almost immediately (probably at 12-15 weeks I was in drawstring pants and maternity pants). This pregnancy, I just switched to maternity pants on Thursday.

Michael Buble Concert!!

For Mother's Day (see post here), Connor and Mr. Howard bid in an auction on fourth row seat tickets to the Michael Buble Concert and we finally got to go last night! It was by far the best concert I've ever been to. He came out into the audience; he acknowledged signs that people were holding (e.g. "Oh I see you're turning 14! Happy Birthday!); he talked about his visit to Sacramento; he talked about how he knew it was expensive to come to concerts and pay for parking and thanked us several times for taking time out of our busy, working Tuesdays to come see him; he talked about his fiance and why he wears a ring; and thoroughly cemented his place in thousands of girls' and women's hearts!

Look at How Close We Were! FOURTH ROW SEATS!!
This video was taken at the end of the concert on Mr. Howard's iPhone (not the best quality) and at that point, all the girls and women had rushed the floor, so it looks like we're behind a lot of people. It's just the crowd that gathered at the end. Otherwise, there were only a few people in between Michael and us!!!

How We Spent a Sunday Together

Because Mr. Howard has had to work some weird shifts (with people on vacation), he got an entire weekend off! This is how we spent our Sunday!

I felt like if we could read his mind, he'd be saying, "Ummm...Guys...You forgot to heat the bath!"

Being a Middle School Teacher

Technically I'm still an Elementary School Teacher; however, this year I am teaching 7th graders! What a difference! Here are just a few things I've learned in the short week and a half that I've been a 7th Grade English, History, and PE teacher:

  1. It's going to take a while before the girls learn how to apply makeup and don't come looking like clowns!
  2. Having the deoderant conversation on the first day of school is a must!
  3. Prep time is the most wonderful invention ever! Don't tell other teachers. They may want your job!
  4. 7th graders are much more concerned with the concept of "fair" than even kindergartners!
  5. On the first day of school, avoid the word "period." Students will giggle.

16 Weeks Pregnant

A friend said that I look pregnant today, so up goes the photo of the bump! Gosh, I hope so, because I am DONE feeling fat.

I hate when I know I'm pregnant. But no one else does. I want to walk around telling everyone, "I swear I'm not wearing a tight tank top with a big belly of excess weight. I'm pregnant."

I'm sorry about the quality of the photo. We used Mr. Howard's iPhone4. Our camera charger is somewhere in Italy (a logical place for it, don't you think?), which renders our camera useless!!

I'm Feeling Better, Folks

I've been super, super exhausted from all the Itty drama and then I had to move classrooms (my old one was across the school). It was pretty darn insane trying to move and set up a whole classroom while not being allowed to lift anything. But, I have happy news to report.

I am feeling soo much better! I am finally feeling like myself! I know a lot of you have written to us concerned and I so appreciate that. It certainly made getting through it all that much easier. And boy do I have amazing friends, family, and neighbors - Courney who watched Connor while I ran to the emergency room, my mom who drove out several times to take me to the doctor and emergency room, Mr. Howard who worked full days and then came in the evening to help me get my room set up, Diana who came to school on a Sunday to help me move, Dad who came to school on a Sunday to help me move, Katie and Mom who watched Connor while Mr. Howard and I stayed late at work fixing my room, Susan who helped me clean my room and moved boxes across the campus for me, and all of you for your silent prayers and thoughts.

Itty is looking great. His/her heartbeat is just where it should be, moving around like babies do, and beginning to kick (I feel little butterflies and bubbles). I am positive that despite these little bumps, we'll continue to have a smooth pregnancy the rest of the way.

Now that I'm back to my "Waking up Early" Routine, I got to wake our little man up the other day (something I haven't done in a while). Look at how adorable he is (don't know why the photo is weirdly colored):

I tried really hard to enjoy my last few weekdays with him and we played in his room on Monday for a bit before I began the madness that was my week:I know a few of you have been asking for a bump photo, so that will be my next assignment to work on! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday!

Guess Who Got Another 4.0?!?

My smartie-pants husband did it again this summer and got a 4.0, even though he was gone for two weeks of the class and had to do a lot of work ahead of time! My how I love and adore this man! **This photo is from our San Gimginano Tour**

A Few Pictures from Europe

These pictures are in absolutely no order! My sister took most of these photos. Aren't they AMAZING?? I can't access the ones I took, so I'll have to upload those in a different post!

An Itty Update & Adorable Little Man Photo!

Our happy boy!
I have had SUCH an easy pregnancy. Really! And this little guy above has made the tiny bit of extra tiredness I've felt, so worth it! Isn't he just the most precious little man?

Last week, because God has blessed me with the most wonderfully simple pregnancy, we had a few complications (just to remind us that we are, in fact, having a baby) and had a bit of a scare, complete with several OB visits and a hospital stay. I have debated detailing it out, but I think I'm going to save it for the baby books! I'll just say that we have determined the cause to be a blood clot behind Itty's placenta and that I have been put on strict doctor's orders to TAKE IT EASY! This whole "taking it easy" thing has been anything but easy. I am so used to taking care of our home, taking care of Little Man, and doing a full-time job, that I sometimes forget that there are other people who can do some of those things for me. We've all heard about the pregnant people who say, "Ohh I can't do that! I need a nap!" or "Gosh, I can't work because I'm sooo tired." or " don't know how hard it is to be pregnant; will you please sit here and feed me my food?!" Hehe! That was not me! So, I'm going to take a cue from those women and ask for help more! I promise to take it easy, Susan & Diana!

Connor - Thirteen Months

Wow! So much has changed! Here are just a few highlights:

  • Weight - 21 lb 1 oz
  • Height - 2' 6"
  • Head - 18.74"

  • Waves his hands hello and goodbye on the cue, "Wave hi to Auntie Jen...", etc.
  • Claps when music comes on.
  • Dances to the beat or singing.
  • Shakes head wildly (and slightly sassily) back and forth when you say "no!"
  • Shakes head yes randomly.
  • Mama
  • Dada
  • Uh-oh
  • Katie
  • Mimics what you're saying. So the other day I said "You're okay. You're okay. You're okay." He replied back to me "itt eut otay!"
  • Hello (when playing on a cell phone)
  • Jake

What I've Been Working on

School starts in just a few short days and I have so much I want to get done beforehand. Our next baby will come mid-year and, having experienced one addition to our home already, I know how crazy that will be. So, there were some urgent projects that needed to get done before we started and I have finally been able to make some headway on those. The first big undertaking was to sort out Connor's clothes. I have been very diligent in putting away clothes that don't fit him, so there weren't any clothes in his closet to sort through; but I've simply been stashing them in a drawer in no particularly organized fashion. I wanted to make sure that with Baby #2, I have an easy time being able to just go into the closet to grab the correct tub. Seeing as though we aren't going to know the gender of our next baby, I also needed to sort the tubs in case we have a girl.

I've labeled the tubs Newborn & 0-3 m. Neutral and Newborn & 0-3 m. Boy

Connor is already answering phones!

Connor was not a happy camper when we tried to put him down at my parents' house the night of my birthday dinner. So we let him join us at dinner. My sister was trying to keep him from crying and started playing with a toy cell phone. She'd dial a number and say, "Hello!" She handed it to him and he SAID "HELLO!!!" I was able to capture his second or third time saying it, but still soooo exciting! By the way, this was taken on Mr. Howard's iPhone4. Pretty amazing for a phone, huh?

Annual Birthday Dinner

We try to go to dinner at Ruth's Chris for my birthday every year for their AMAZING seared ahi tuna, filets, delicious pomegranate martinis, and occasionally their lobster tail. Even though I was pregnant and couldn't partake in the fruity alcoholic beverages this year, I did get a virgin daiquiri and I...drum roll please...did have the seared ahi tuna. And I refuse to feel one tiny ounce of guilt about it.

In fact, after reading an article that said, "Eating sushi with raw fish or eating sashimi is just as dangerous to pregnant women as it is to non-pregnant people" I have decided to not be as strict this pregnancy. Perhaps my baby will have two heads, or perhaps (**JUST LIKE IN JAPAN**), absolutely nothing will happen to my baby except that he/she may come out loving sushi! The funny thing is that there are some doctors (why didn't I do any research when I was pregnant with Connor??) that say that it is ABSOLUTELY fine to eat sushi in moderation.

Connor's First Haircut

We finally took Connor to get his very first haircut. He was definitely getting a bit shaggy!! We had intended to it before we left for Europe, but alas, life got in the way. While Jen was here, we took advantage of the time Mr. Howard had taken off and drove to get it done!

My Birthday Dinner

This year we were able to have Jen join us for my Annual Birthday Dinner at my parents' house! Thank you so much for flying all the way out here for a visit and a birthday celebration! Love you!

P.S. I am getting a new camera!! I absolutely, positively HATE this one (look at the quality of this birthday photo). I need ideas for a good Point and Shoot one!!!! PLEASE!!!
