I'm not sure anyone else will be able to relate to this post besides teachers, but perhaps there are professions out there I don't know about.

This morning (well if 2am counts as morning) I awoke with the stomach flu. My immediate thought was, "I'm going to be sick!" and my secondary thought was, "Oh no! Sub plans!" I asked my darling husband to pull up subfinder to start putting in the information and then I felt better. And so began the inner teacher struggle. For those of you unfamiliar, this is how it goes...

"Do I call in a sub? What if I'm feeling better? I just got sick, but I feel great now. Am I feeling great because I'm having that temporary relief or do I feel better becuase I'm not really sick? Ughhhhh. Yeah. I don't feel well. I should write sub plans." I say to my husband, "I don't think there's anyway I can write. Can you start typing while I tell you? Okay. 10:25am - homeroom. The students have morning meeting. It's Johana's turn to lead. No, wait, it's Zontrel's. Oh who cares? Just write, 'someone lead morning meeting.' Okay, passing period is from 10:40-10:45. 1st period is English. Write that my English book is on my desk. Oh wait. Maybe it's on my computer table in the front. @#!* just write 'find my English book'....oh no, I think I have library tomorrow. Oh, okay, start over...10:25..."

The inner struggle continues...

"Babe, I'm feeling much better. Maybe I shouldn't write sub plans. Let's cancel the sub. I think I just need to sleep. Oh gosh, but what if I wake up and it's too late and I don't feel well? Okay, here's my plan. You cancel subfinder. And save the sub lesson plans. Set my alarm for 5am. I'll re-evaluate then or maybe I'll just argue with myself for another hour about whether I'm feeling better because I just got sick or because I wasn't really sick to begin with.

Teachers? Can you relate?

ha! I totally can relate.
However, sick is just not an option. I used all but one of my days when I had the twins. Hoping to make it through the rest of the year well... we will see.

I read this aloud to Bill and we both cracked up - so true ...Ahhhh, the life of a teacher :) You realize you can always just write "Go find Susan and Diana" and we'll take care of everything, right?.... D

Ughh...I hated subplans! Now I just cancel my student's appointments and reschedule. Did I say how much I love my job?! I feel ya! My hubby has to get up and be in his classroom by 5am to get sub plans done. Yes...the life of a teacher! : P
