Keeping it Real

Blogging has created this amazing glimpse into average people's lives. It's been amazing. We've been able to get advice, comfort, a laugh, perspective, and ideas. But, it has also created this sense that maybe we're not doing enough. Have you heard that saying, "The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight real." Yep. That pretty much sums it up, right?

I always get these comments wondering how I have the time to do x, y, and z. And that's the thing about blogging. You don't get to see the areas of my life that I'm majorly failing at (because why on earth would I put that on the blog?). Instead, you see my polished, perfectly planned, highly organized life.

So, in honor, of keeping it real. I wanted to do my own version of Show us Your Life. But this one is Show us Your REAL life.

First up? Laundry. Yep. I hate it. Loath. I do not wash the sheets on my bed once a week. I do not wash my towels every time I use them. I just don't. So there you have it.

My mother-in-law left a week ago and stripped the bed for me. And now it has become my catch-all for laundry. This is all clean, by the way. I guess I should clarify. I don't mind doing laundry! I hate putting it away! Ugh.

Next up? Projects. My living room has been half painted for 3 weeks. It's embarrassing. I mean SERIOUSLY embarrassing. We've had people from ALTA in our house a couple times and I feel like I need to profusely apologize. I look at the blogosphere and see all these gorgeous, perfectly put together houses and I see pictures of their perfect children and I wonder how they do it all. But I'm sure there's something else they've put on the backburner. Right? RIGHT?!?
And finally? Our yard. I'd like to blame this on my husband. But let's be real. He'd do it if I wasn't always saying, "Don't you want to cuddle on the couch with me?...The kids are sleeping, do you want to take a nap with me?...The kids are asleep; let's a rent a movie!!" (Wow! A lot of our conversations revolve around the kids napping...). The number one fight we have is over time. I want more of his time. I want him to work less. I want to have to work less. I'd be happy cuddling on the couch with our kids 5 days a week. Seriously. And yard work...Well, that just isn't my priority at this stage in my life. Some day we'll have a gardener. I keep saying that the next promotion Mr. Howard gets will go towards a housekeeper and gardener, but then instead it goes to daycare...or Disneyland...or the twins' first birthday party...or saving for a bigger mortgage payment. I know; we lead very exciting lives.

So, perhaps I have answered some of your questions about how I have the time with three kids to plan fun, decorative birthday parties, blog, or go on dates with my hubby. I just prioritize the things I like doing over the things I hate doing.

But now that I've posted my laundry for the world to see, I absolutely, positively MUST put it away before I pick the kids up from school.

Haha. Love this post. We still have yet to finish our living room painting and have tape on the ceiling and a ladder in our living room. I can't stand to have laundry laying around so it's not a problem for me. However, my house is a mess because I just don't want to clean it.

Oh, how I hate laundry too!! And just like you, the putting it away part, not the washing part. I tend to just leave it in the dryer until my husband finally insists I finish it!

Thanks!!! Glad to see that I am not the only mama of 3 that is not getting everything done ever day :) Seriously love this post. I HATE putting away laundry too (thank goodness that J is now old enough that she is in charge of that).

That is so funny about your backyard...I do the same thing. I give my husband a list of the things he needs to get done and then I beg him to hang out with me :) hehe Love this post!
