Gallery Wall Upstairs Hallway

I still haven't edited the pictures from Halloween. I keep thinking I'm going to get that up on the blog, but I took about 500 photos and I'm dreading having to widdle them down to my favorites! I just thought they were SO stinkin cute!! In the meantime, I finally photographed the hallway Gallery Wall I made a few months ago.

We have a hallway that runs between our master bedroom (the white door shown below) and all three kids' bedrooms and I knew I wanted to do a gallery wall on it. I did a gallery wall downstairs and LOVED the way it turned out. Here's that post for those of you who missed it!

In our last house, I did a gallery wall of photos with mismatched frames in our main hallway and I loved it, but Mr. Howard HATED it. Hated. Have I ever mentioned that he is very symmetrical? He likes things to match EXACTLY. When he hangs picture frames, he literally measures from the sides of each wall to find the exact center...and then he'll measure from the ceiling to the floor to find the center...and then calculate out where each size frame should go exactly....he'll then make tiny marks with pencils on the wall...and, just to be sure, then re-measure about 1500 more times until I'm about to lose my stinkin' mind. No, but really. You think I'm OCD? You haven't seen Mr. Howard with a pencil, tape measure, and 20 frames. It'll make you start to twitch and feel like suggesting he seek a treatment plan.

Because of his craziness desire for symmetry, I knew I needed to find a way to get variety without going too crazy. I decided to keep a consistent color, because then I could vary the size of the frames. I found all these frames at Ikea and literally stood there picking out all sorts of different sizes (in groups of two for that dear symmetrical husband of mine) in exactly the same frame. There are two frames in there that are shadow box frames not from Ikea. Coincidentally enough, they were both gifted to me from Jen (when she asked me to be her Matron of Honor) and my sister (filled with pictures of my bridal shower) independently and worked perfectly for the wall! I spent a few days adding in pictures and filling all the frames with the people we love, until it was exactly the way I wanted it. This was the first time I had ever really planned out my pictures (thinking about everyone we know and love and how we could capture their special moments on our wall).
I am so pleased with how the wall turned out and was able to blend my desire for a bit of variety with my husband's desire for a lot of the same.

I need to do one more gallery wall in our family room and am thinking about doing something VERY different - like maybe BIG oversized frames and painted letters. Any ideas?

Nice! I'm honored that my wedding photo made it in. ;) (Did you know that that pic of the Gentrys was from my wedding?) What is your wall color? It's such a pretty gray.
