Midweek Randoms

This week has been ridiculously long! This upcoming Friday at 2pm, I will be in my car heading home, completely relaxed, to begin my Spring Break; thus, it goes without saying that my students have been W.I.L.D. Take the it's-almost-spring-break-excitement and multiply it because we are doing our annual Living History Wax Museum tomorrow night. My seventh graders are hyped up about wearing the costumes they've been working on. Tomorrow night is by far my absolute favorite night in my teaching world. I look forward to it so much!! But after grading 70 display boards, costumes, and participation points, and hearing LOTS of opinions about how I should do it next year...or where my students should stand...or how I can make it easier on other people...I will have earned my Spring Break. Seriously. I always end the week feeling like I've been hit by a freight train.

The kids have been waking up SO stinkin' early and I'm pretty sure that's contributed to my ridiculously long week. We're averaging 5:40am wake-ups. Isabella secretly crawled into our bed at 11:30pm last night. Mr. Howard and I woke up to her in bed with us watching the Disney Channel at full volume. Hmmmm. That is not going to work. I've used Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to help me blowdry my hair and shower at 6am. Thank goodness for Disney Jr. in the morning.
Our weather finally changed over from cold to hot. Holy moly. There was no in between. It's been 85 this week (I know. I'm a wuss. But that's hot when you're trying to run). One of the things I hate about teaching middle school now is that I don't get to go outside to teach PE anymore and it drives me insane that some days the only times I go outside are when I'm walking to and from my classroom. So I let my world history students do their independent work outside one afternoon.
Mr. Howard and I have been in the process of a refinance on our house for 5 months (to get rid of our PMI Insurance). We got all the way done in December and were ready to close escrow when our mortgage company was sold. So we had to start all the way over. It's been a little crazy. But on Monday, we FINALLY signed all our papers - so it should close and record Friday. Whew. My brother picked up the kids for us and hubby and I celebrated with two pens, lots and lots of signatures, dinner, and obviously the obligatory "we-just-signed-our-papers" selfie!
I am continuing on my health journey to find alternative healthier substitutes from some of the foods I eat. I haven't had much luck with quinoa recipes, but I looked up some new ideas and tried a few out this week. One thing I tried that made a big difference was washing the quinoa with a fine mesh strainer. How did I not know about this before?!? Did you know? Last night I made a quinoa with olive oil, sea salt, and sauteed bell peppers to go with our salmon - to take for lunch. It was better than it has been in the past. I'll keep exploring new ideas.
Tonight I went on a run in the 85 degree heat. Whoa! I forgot what it's like to run in that kind of weather. I was pretty much a pool of sweat when I got back. It didn't help that I completely forgot to bring water. I think I forgot to mention in my last post that when I went running with my three little men on Sunday, I rolled my ankle pretty good. I was nervous about running on it - because it's been pretty sore, but it felt great tonight - not at all hurt. Thank goodness. I'd hate for a little fun run to take me out.
My mother-in-law sent the kids these appliqued jammies and the kids were SO excited about wearing them. They've worn them two nights in a row and it's a battle to get them off in the morning - because they want to wear them to school.

I was snapping photos to send to their grandma and the kids wouldn't smile. I finally said, "Whoever smiles gets to watch Frozen" and this was the reaction I got. I am pretty sure Connor is the most excited about the possibility of watching Frozen for the millionth time. ;-)
This photo below was not staged. Connor scooted over to Aiden; Isabella scooted over to Connor; and they all smiled just like this. I caught it just in the nick of time before the fighting broke out over how Aiden was being squished into the stairs.
Alright, I am off to bed. Think good thoughts for my students tomorrow...and for my ability to grade 70 projects before they leave for Spring Break. It's always a race to the clock to get them all done! I can't wait to show you photos!

Yay for spring break! I love those amazing pajamas your mother-in-law made, they are awesome! I have not enjoyed running in the warmer weather either, at least we get an ocean breeze. I think I might have to change my exercise for the summer though:(I hope you have a wonderful, rested spring break!
