In November of 2000, Mr. Howard and I met at a mutual friend's birthday party. Because I was in charge of videotaping the guests to get their birthday wishes, I got the opportunity to meet many of the guests at the party. The second Mr. Howard came over to give his speech on the tape, I fell for him. After a phone call to our mutual friend, I realized that if I didn't try to give him a call, I might miss out on a good guy. (Yes I made the first move - and the best move I ever made). After a VERY slow beginning (complete with a few no-shows from Mr. Howard), we had our first date in January of 2001.
After several months of dating, I also discovered why Mr. Howard had stood me up in the beginning of our "courtship." Back in November, the night before I had called, he had been lamenting to his best friend about how girls never make the first move and how they never call guys first. Mr. Howard told his friend that the girl who actually called him and made the first move, would be the girl that he would marry. Less than 24 hours after his conversation with his friend, I called and made the first move. (Coincidence or fate?)
After about nine months of dating, we faced our first of many difficulties. I moved away from our home town to go to college in Irvine, while Mr. Howard decided to remain. Many thought a long distance relationship wouldn't last and that we would be one of the many high school couples left in the dust. I believe that our one year apart, truly solidified our love and made it so that we could both appreciate each other and respect each other's need for independence and friendship outside of the relationship.
After over six years together, we were married on July 14, 2007 in a beautiful ceremony in front of all our friends and family.
Our Wedding Video:
Immediately we began trying for our family as I had some medical concerns regarding fertility. After 12 months and many, many, many disapointments, we began the process of seeing a fertility specialist (while I never publically talked about what those fertility problems were on my blog, I am always happy to talk with people who are interested). The very night before our first scheduled appointment, we found out that we had conceived and were expecting a baby. After nine months, Mr. Howard and I welcomed Connor James into our lives on July 7, 2009!
Then in June we found out we were expecting another baby, a little brother or sister for Connor, and announced it to the world in August!
On September 17th at 5:43am, we welcomed Cole Jayden Howard to our world and quickly said goodbye to him as God ushered him straight to heaven. For more information about this, click the tab at the top called Our Angel.
Then on June 30, 2011 we welcomed Aiden Patrick and Isabella Lynn to our growing family at 9:20 and 9:22am. They were each about 4 pounds, which meant they had a few day stay in the NICU. But after four days, we were finally able to bring them home for the first time to meet their brother Connor!
I write this blog as a way to process through my grief, celebrate the wonderful life we have with our three earthly babies, and talk about what it's like to be a working teacher mama. I currently teach English, World History, and Technology to seventh and eighth graders in California.
I always love receiving emails from people who read my blog. So feel free to use the link at the top left of my page to contact me!
